Description
The Palace of Versailles, or Château de Versailles in French, was the principal royal residence of France from 1682 to 1789, exactly until the start of the French Revolution.
Located in the department of Yvelines, about 20 kilometres (12 miles) southwest of the centre of Paris, the palace is nowadays listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
With more than 7 million visitors per year, this palace is especially known for the ceremonial Hall of Mirrors, the Grand Trianon and the French style gardens, that cover around 800 hectares of land.
